CANVAS: Navigating Your Student's Schedule
Are you struggling to keep up with your student's assignments, Zoom meetings, schedule in general? Well, there's hope! The Canvas App. It a tool to help navigate your ASD enrolled student's new digital schedule. There are two versions of the App, the Student App and the Parent Observer App. The perks of the Parent App is you can add multiple students to observe schedules, message teachers, find assignments and more. Read below on how to set up your Parent Observer account.
Set up Canvas Parent Observer Account
First Sign into your child's Student Canvas App or Dashboard. They can access this from asdk12.org under 'Students' then Canvas or by logging into the Clever app. TIP: Use their ASD school credentials lastname.firstname@asdk12.org Get the Pairing Code by going to their Canvas account - Settings - Pair with Observer
2. Click on the 'Pair with Observer' button. Copy the Code generate in the pop up window.
This code is good for at least 24 hours. You can also pair multiple students to the Parent Observer account by repeating this process.
3. Click 'Ok' to close the pop up.
Now, we create the Parent Observer Account.
1. Open a web browser and navigate to https://asdk12.instructure.com/login/canvas 2. Click 'Parent of a Canvas User? Click Here for an Account' to create a new account .
3. Enter user information and paste the pairing code in the last field. Your email will now become your Canvas username. To finish, accept terms and conditions and Start Participating.
5. You will see your Canvas dashboard with the courses your student is enrolled in. Click on the title of the course to see its contents.
6. Do you have more than one student to observe? Go to your Account Profile to quickly add them via pairing codes: https://asdk12.instructure.com/profile/observees
How to Logout, Log Back In, and Retrieve Password
To log out of the Parent Canvas account on the web, go to Account tab - Log Out.
To log back in via web browser go to https://asdk12.instructure.com/login/canvas enter your registered email for username and password. Bookmark this page!
If you forgot your password, click on “Forgot Password?” link, enter your email to get a reset password email from Canvas
Registration Via Mobile App
Download Canvas Parent App follow these steps:
2. Open the app and click to “Find My School”
3. Type “Anchorage School District” and select Anchorage School District - Parents option
4. Click on “Create Account” Link:

ASD parents are able to set-up “Parent Observer” accounts in Canvas for their students by registering via the web browser or via Canvas Parent mobile app.
