iReady Test Assessment Tips! 5 Things to Know BEFORE Your Student Tests!
Welcome to the new world of Distance Learning! Have you recently been introduced to a new crazy platform that will potentially determine the entire educational year for your student? You're not alone. Alaska is only one of the 50 states that is now being tested via iReady. The new platform quotes itself as a "Personalized Instruction paths for each student." Trust me, if you're not mentally prepared for the testing that's about ensue, I'm sure by the first 20 minutes in iReady, you'll be frantically searching for solace. It's going to be okay! We got you fam! Be sure to read this BEFORE you start your student's test!
1. Practice

It may not seem like much but this little interactive game from iReady can at least engage your student or help younger learners adapt to their device. Try iReady Tools Here: https://www2.curriculumassociates.com/lp/kcorner-Lesson3-interactive-child/
2. Full Screen
While this seems like a simple thing, enabling Full Screen will ensure your student does not miss anything that iReady may be trying to show them.

PC: Click F11 on the top of the keyboard Mac: Control + Command + F Chromebook: Click Full Screen Button (See Image)
To Exit Full Screen: Click 'Esc' Escape Button or Select F11 again. Or for Mac, hover over top left corner of the screen and click the green circle.
3. Spreadsheets (iReady Testing Template)
We love you. Seriously, we spent a lot of time building this spreadsheet for our homepod and now you get to enjoy some true benefits of following Alaska Learns! This template will help track multiple students or students needing frequent breaks taking the iReady assessment tests. PDF and PNG versions below.

4. This Test is Like Nothing Anyone Has Ever Taken
I repeat, this test is an ENTIRELY new ballgame in "testing." As parents, it is in our intuitive and parental instinct to come to our child's aid or at least be present in times of need. This test is the complete opposite of building up a child's confidence.

Let your student know, it's not about getting questions "right," it's about knowing this is a journey of knowledge and experiencing questions they probably will not encounter again for many years. "TAKE YOUR BEST GUESS" is a frequent statement from teachers. Well, yeah you're not the one sitting in the room with a sobbing 8 year old wondering what educational purgatory they're in. HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR. Read the questions and understand, it's an AI software that's built to challenge your student. It's pulling numbers and stats to throw at your student and educators to meet Federal and State educational requirements, i.e. it's trying to challenge student minds and see what we already know.
5. Take Frequent Breaks!
Get the snacks ready, block out a few hours, or mini segments throughout a few days (que spreadsheets). Most teachers are given about 5 days to train and request completion of the tests. It's 2 parts, Reading & Math. Thankfully, students can stop and start at will. This is nice if you have a students needing frequent breaks. STRANGELY enough, our younger students typically completed their assessments faster than the older students. Times varied for Math from 1 to 3 hours (breaks included). And for Reading segments from 1-3 hours as well.

Bonne Chance Mes Amies!
